Thinking negatively isn’t healthy. It makes you unhappy and only helps you to see anything and everything that is not positive.

If left unattended long enough, negativity will cause a fast-moving downward spiral. It can cause you to lose friends and have severed relationships with people that mean the most to you.

Negativity can lead to depression and a host of other mental struggles. Therefore, many of us avoid negative people at all costs, like the plague.

But what if you are one of those people that others tend to avoid? If you are and would like to remove that negativity from your life and add more happiness, try the following suggestions.

Kill Negativity With Gratitude

Gratitude is the most powerful weapon against the war of negativity. It’s pretty much the opposite of it. Once you accomplish the act of being grateful, you will find that your negativity will struggle to deal with you newly found gratitude.

You can start by simply saying “ThankYou!” more often. Ideally, out loud is preferred, but thinking it is at least a good start.

Look for the things in your life to be grateful for:

  • You’re alive
  • You’re healthy
  • The family you have
  • The clothes you are wearing

Keep a Gratitude Journal

The best way to rid negativity through gratitude is to keep a gratitude journal. With this type of journal you simply list three things each and every day that you are grateful for.

Get More Exercise

So what does exercise have to do with negativity? Well, a lot actually.

Exercising releases powerful endorphins into your body. These endorphins are like “feel-good” hormones that act much faster and safer than any drug.

Exercising does not necessarily mean you have to go to the gym or run a 5K race. Nope, it can be simply taking a long walk or dancing a bit while cleaning your house.

The more we exercise the more endorphins we release and the easier it is to see past the negativity.

Eat Healthily

Everyone has a comfort food, right? You know, that one thing you eat to make yourself feel better. It may be Caramel-Swirl Ice Cream or chocolate. You eat it and the negativity seems to fade right?

When you eat something like a candy bar or ice cream you get a quick sugar high, but that is soon followed by the negative side of eating food that isn’t really healthy. So it is a temporary fix and that’s it.

How To Start Eating Healthier

First, you must start choosing slightly healthier choices for what you eat. A good rule to follow is not to eat anything with ingredients in the label that you don’t know what it is or have at home. Therefore, if you don’t have high fructose corn syrup at home stay away from the foods that contain it.

Here are some other suggestions:

  • Cut down on excess sugar
  • Stay out of the drive-through
  • Avoid fried and fatty foods
  • Add more veggies and herbs to your meals

Your body will thank you and so will your mindset towards negativity.

Try Hypnosis or Meditation for Negativity

Negativity isn’t something you have chosen for yourself. It is something your subconscious mind has developed as a protective mechanism for you.

Just as you can’t tell your nails or hair to stop growing, it’s not simple or easy to remove negativity or depression on a conscious level.

Let’s talk about hypnosis and meditation separately.

Hypnosis for Negativity

Hypnosis works by working with your subconscious mind to subtly change your behavior and reduce the negativity you have in your life. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Hypnosis, also referred to as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion is a trance-like state in which you have heightened focus and concentration“.

It is fairly easy. All you need to do is listen to a hypnosis recording (easier, cheaper and more flexible than a visit to a hypnotist) and let it work its magic.

Similar to riding a bike, once you have learned to meditate then it’s a process you will remember your whole life. Meditation is a great way to curb negativity.

How do you learn to meditate? Very Well Mind has an excellent article all about meditation, especially for beginners.

The best place to start is to search for meditation tutorials on the internet. A good suggestion to start with is a breathing meditation. You can move to more advanced methods later.

Do your best to meditate the same time each day so that it becomes a habit. I do 20 minutes of meditation in the morning with a meditation app on my phone.

Positive affirmations are a very good way to curb and even remove the negativity in your life. Positive affirmations are a statement or a set of statements that are repeated to boost your attitude and mindset.

An excellent book on positive affirmations you may wanna check out is Daily Affirmations for Success and Happiness: 500 Positive Affirmations to Rewire Your Brain by Creed McGregor. I have this book and it is an awesome way to start eliminating any negativity!
